He was excluded from the 1978 World Cup winning squad because he was too young, as the next year he led the under-20 team to a Junior World Cup championship. In his career he included in 4 world cup squad as in 1982, 1986, 1990, and 1994 and achieved a title of fifa world cup 1986 in Mexico.
After all he became the head coach of Argentina national team in 2008. Later in 2010 the Argentina team leaded in quater final but they didn't achieve the world cup so the team management not agreed on a contract extension. He hired as coach of a UAE club in 2011. After all he died on November 25- 2020 in Argentina.
